I found out apparently it might've been because I downvoted a moderators comment. Yet they say I'm spamming even though I'm 100% sure multiple comments were in the same thread. The main feature on the site that they already have moderated so you cant spam. I've received a strike for downvoting comments. And 2 I've received a profile strike for comments I've downvoted months ago. I've lost all respect for multiple moderators especially milcore due to the fact number 1: they banned a user who was seeking mental help and used the report "trolling and harassment". Plus apparently some of the moderators here have some secrets I hear. They say they'll get rid of any offensive material but I've seen stuff that would be ban worthy stay up for months and still counting even after I've submitted a report. Now all of this isnt even mentioning the hate speech and discrimination they let people get away with. So guess who all that money isn't going to? The artists that literally are the sole foundation of the site. Also another thing is think how much money they generate from other artists, they're generating enough to own multiple companies apparently. Keep in mind this was in dms so that means dms aren't private at all. I've seen janitors admins even say stuff that violates tos any day but they dont receive anything yet I dm someone calling then out on their transphobia and I get a profile strike. The amount of hypocritical stuff they do and let their own get away with is dumbfounding. They try to ignore the actual purpose of their site (I will elaborate in a bit). If you behave fine on FA why are you behaving like a out of control schizo on e621? Anyway that website is one step from seeing legal actions when they realize they host illegally obtained content without prior asking permission. But the worst part is their disgusting mentally ill community who are spamming multiple artworks with horrific comments, artists who see this behavior from their users are left in shock and immediately request full dnp of their gallery. You are supposed to ask the artists first and receive the approval and than press on with the uploads not just grab any random image and than spread it across that website, how are they still not shut down over so many unauthorized uploads? This also results in multiple users that are struggling to keep up with their numbers of views and watchers, many are barely getting any increase in inactivity as now you can just take shortcut through that website instead. This website is openly posting artwork stolen from numerous users galleries across entire FA, IB and Twitter without ever asking anyone if they can actually repost their art prior to uploading it.

Part of the justification for deregulation without back-up generation had been the promise of lower bills, but this has also not been delivered. “I don’t know of any market design that exists anywhere that would have anticipated and have been prepared for something of this scope and scale.” Yet Texas’ neighbours escaped relatively unscathed, and investigations showed power providers knew power failures were highly likely under extreme temperatures. William Hogan, an energy economist at Harvard University who helped design the Texas market, argued the week of blackouts were inevitable imperfections stemming from extraordinary weather. We are struggling to come to grips with the reality that gas let us down when we needed it most” Prof. The advocates of the Texas “no reliance on our neighbours” philosophy tried to blame part of the power crisis on wind farms, and to divert attention on to President Biden’s fossil fuel plans. Bush said when, as governor, he signed the Texas energy deregulation bill. Texas customers had been promised that “competition in the electric industry will benefit Texans by reducing monthly rates and offering consumers more choices about the power they use,” as George W. Ercot utilities avoid connecting their systems to those of neighbouring states.īut nearby states with worse weather avoided catastrophe, as did cities in Texas outside the state’s Ercot deregulated service area, like El Paso, as well as those inside the Ercot zone which took their own precautions to ensure they had back-up if the Ercot grid went down. Most of the state belongs to an “island” grid network, run by the Electricity Reliability Corporation of Texas (Ercot). Texas has chosen to design its power system around two primary goals: cheaper power and avoiding federal oversight. The crisis also cut US oil and gas production by 20%, and, in addition to the excess power costs, was estimated to have cost the state’s economy $2.8 billion per day. “This is the largest train wreck in the history of deregulated electricity,” said Republican state senator Brandon Creighton. It showed that power plants in the state, run by Texas’s largest electricity company Luminant, had failed during cold weather in 2014, and despite calls for it to make changes, the company had denied there was a major problem. An investigation by the Texas Tribune and the ProPublica foundation discovered that politicians and regulators had ignored previous calls to strengthen the electricity grid against freezing weather. That was not news to the people in charge of Texas’ energy. Unlike natural gas production infrastructure in northern states, wellheads, gathering lines and processing facilities in Texas were not “weatherised” for prolonged bouts of freezing temperatures, the US Energy Information Administration said. During the four peak days of the crisis, some residents were billed up to $9,000 per megawatt hour as suppliers ratcheted up prices given limited power supply.Įxperts argue Texas should have been better prepared, and had not heeded warnings to prepare its power and water systems for bad weather. Four million homes were without power for days. Dozens had died and hundreds suffered carbon monoxide poisoning as they ran cars in their garage to keep warm. After the worst of the cold weather had passed, some customers received another nasty shock when unexpected bills arrived for electricity provided under surge pricing.įifteen million had lost access to clean water as water-treatment plants were forced offline. Sub-zero temperatures caused the state’s power grid to shudder, leaving millions unable to heat their homes or cook. February’s big freeze was deadly, devastating and costly. Since grep works line by line, this would select every line containing an “H”. A regular expression consisting of a single “non-special” character will match any string containing that character.Īs it happens, none of the alphabetic and numeric characters are “special”, so the regular expression d, for example, would match any string containing a “d”.Įxample 2: Try This: Regular expressions - basic characters cd ~/playing.To write more powerful patterns, we need to understnad how regular expressions are constructed Compare the outputs of these commands: sed 's/I/you/g' alas.txt You can add an ‘i’ flag at the end of the substitution to change this. Neither the pattern nor the replacement are limited to single letters.īy default, sed is case-sensitive. If the ‘g’ is dropped, only the first match in each line will be replaced. The ‘g’ at the end of each of the prior example indicates that the change should be applied every time a match is found (i.e., this is a global replacement). Now try operating on that file with sed: sed s/o/X/g alas.txt They can be replaced by any character that does not appear in either the pattern or replacement strings.)Įxample 1: Try This: Substitutions with sed cd ~/playing (The ‘/’ characters are simply necessary to indicate the beginning and end of the pattern and replacement strings. Where filename is the file whose contents we want to scan and replace, pattern is a regular expression describing the text to search for in each line, and replacement is the text by which we wish to replace any thing that matches the pattern. The sed command to do this is sed s/ pattern/ replacement/g filename A common use of sed is to scan each line of the file for a pattern and to replace that pattern, wherever it occurs, by some string. sed, for example, allows you to enter a variety of editing commands that will be applied to every line of a file. Many other commands besides grep will use regular expressions. We can write a regular expression pattern to match a wide range of related strings.įirst, though, let’s look at another command that makes heavy use of regular expressions. The first parameter (‘def’) is actually an example of a regular expression, a special notation for writing patterns for searching and matching text.Īs we will see shortly, the notation for these patterns is such that a pattern that matches exactly one string (e.g., “def”) is written as that same string - “def” is both the pattern and the string that it matches.īut regular expressions are much more powerful than that. Would list all lines in the indicated file that contain the string “def”. For example, grep 'def' /usr/include/math.h In an earlier example, we saw that the program grep can be used to list all lines of a file that match a given string. Perl and awk, available on most Unix systems but not covered in this course, are scripting (programming) languages with a heavy emphasis on text manipulation, which is accomplished largely through matching on regular expressions. The csplit command splits a single file into multiple pieces, where the point of division is most often indicated via a regular expression. sed, a useful utility for doing simple changes to text files, is most often invoked to use its “substitute” command, which replaces any text matching a regular expression by some desired replacement text. But most Unix text editors (including emacs and vim) will allow you to search for any string matching a regular expression “pattern”. 1 Searching for Textįor example, almost every text editor in any operating system will allow you to search a file for a given string. This notation is called regular expressions. Instead, most Unix programs and commands that do some kind of searching or matching for text will share a common notation for patterns of text to be matched. If wildcards provide a way to write patterns for file and directory paths, can we also write patterns for text strings? Yes, but this is not built into the shell for use by every command, the way that wildcards are. For a graphic designer, photo editor, and digital freelancer, tilt support can make a world’s difference. For that, tilt sensitivity is an absolute must. If you’re an artist, you will certainly be engaging with line weights, shading, fine details, and precision in your work. The answer to this is simple: it depends on your usage and goals. Today, you have drawing tablets and styluses that are barely any different than the basics of graphite and paper. The latest styluses have come a long way from their original counterparts. To get to the organic way of drawing, tilt sensitivity is a perfect feature. And if you are somebody who started with traditional methods of art, the look and feel of pencils can give you a sense of direction. When pressure sensitivity is activated, strokes appear on the canvas like that of a pen on paper. It gives the natural feel and looks of a pen.Artists that rely heavily on shading will find tilt support a crucial feature to make their results much better than before. You can draw the hair-like texture and make amazing artwork on smaller canvas sizes. You can choose your line weight simply by using your stylus like a regular pen. With tilt sensitivity, you get amazing flexibility. Strokes are important to any artist, and so is shading. Have you ever been drawing with a pencil, and dropped it down almost sidewards on the paper to get a nice wide even area of shading, and then gone nearly completely vertical to get a very fine line? Yep, it’s very important. You can enjoy greater flexibility in strokes.Minimizing accuracy errors is another bonus that tilt support offers, especially for detail-oriented users. Tilt rotation also comes to aid for photo editors because they can airbrush their photos using a 60-degree rotation. If you are a photo editor, you can easily edit the minor details by using light pressure on your stylus. For people that need accuracy and precision in their digital work, tilt accuracy ensures that you can get into the finer details of your work with just a tilt of your wrist. It provides precision and accuracy in the artwork.įor many artists, tilt support is a must-have and it is supported by most, if not all applications and drawing tablets.Just like that, we have a tilt-sensitive device in our hands. Reduced pressure will have weakened EM waves that will create thin strokes. Increased pressure creates concentrated EM waves, hence thicker strokes. Pressure has a similar effect on the EM waves. EM waves are circular pools of energy and tilting your stylus means that these pools become concentrated at specific points or edges. Here’s the kicker though: tilt sensitivity is an innovation thanks to the nature of EM waves. So what disrupts the electrostatic field of the touchscreen? Electromagnetic waves do, of course! A stylus is built using copper coils that generate these EM waves and so, it becomes a tool that registers contact with the touchscreen of a drawing tablet. A disruption would mean that the screen would register a touch. These wires create an electrostatic field that is sensitive to any disruptions. A simple touch screen, like your phones and drawing tablets, is built using a fine mesh of wires. Tilt sensitivity is a tricky but innovative feature of styluses and drawing tablets. So how does it all come together? How Does Tilt Sensitivity Work? But getting a stylus to recognize and implement tilt sensitivity isn’t an easy task. Tilt rotation is a very useful tool for graphic designers, digital artists, and anybody who has a detail-oriented work style. However, at a 60-degree tilt, your pen becomes a shading tool. If you keep your pen upright at 90 degrees, your strokes are uniform and smooth. With tilt rotation, your stylus understands when you hold it at a specific angle. Tilt rotation is a sub-feature of tilt sensitivity in a stylus pen. This offer can be redeemed in the Wendy's app or on the website this week, but it. Balance updates, map tweaks, and even entirely new levels could come as part of seasons, similar to other modern multiplayer games. Meanwhile, the entire genre is a natural fit for the modern service game landscape. The game already has a cast of characters that fans love who could be perfect fits for inherent strengths or meaningful upgrades. Those features would have been right at home in a hypothetical Left 4 Dead 2.0. Random loot, customizable weapon loadouts, characters with unique abilities, and upgrade systems don’t exist in Left 4 Dead 2, but they’ve become genre staples in the games that followed. Almost every game in the recent crop of Left 4 Dead-likes - both those that are already out, like Warhammer: Vermintide 2 and Deep Rock Galactic, and those that are on the way, like The Anacrusis, Redfall, and even Back 4 Blood, which is developed by Turtle Rock Studios, the studio behind the original Left 4 Dead - is full of RPG mechanics that add spice to the gameplay loop but don’t really change it. The other games in the genre know it, too. The balance between more relaxed moments of swatting away stray zombies and chatting with your friends, punctuated by chaotic high-tension shootouts against an encroaching horde, is about as fun and satisfying a loop as any game can manage. With its semi-random levels, great arcade-style shooting, excellent writing, and the improvements to the AI in the form of Director 2.0, Left 4 Dead 2’s in-game loop is nearly perfect in a way that the original didn’t quite manage. In many ways, Left 4 Dead 2 is just an incremental upgrade of its predecessor, but maybe that’s because the original game only needed a few additions to become something really special. Sure, it had new levels, the addition of melee weapons, better enemy AI, and more enemy types, but at a glance, it didn’t look much different from the original Left 4 Dead.Īnd in truth, some of those complaints weren’t exactly wrong. When Left 4 Dead 2 was first released, many fans bristled at the fact that it was coming just a year after the original game. But even after a decade of innovations that other developers could bring to the genre, its best version might still be Left 4 Dead 2 with a few minor upgrades. At E3 2021, and in the weeks after, studios and publishers have announced nearly half a dozen games inspired by Valve’s co-op shooter. RELATED: Back 4 Blood vs.Nearly 12 years after the release of Left 4 Dead 2, the genre it popularized has crossed back into the spotlight. Luckily, there's still plenty of time for the titles listed below to impress as their release dates grow ever closer and the games hopefully live up to the legacy of Valve's zombie co-op franchise. Further, despite the great initial pitch of " Left 4 Dead but with dinosaurs," Second Extinction's early access hasn't quite turned the heads that it seemed like it might. The industry has already seen what happens to these Left 4 Dead-likes if they don't innovate or stand out, as Back 4 Blood's player count on Steam dipped below Left 4 Dead 2's. That's not a complaint, as co-op horde shooters are a ton of fun, but hopefully the games listed below will be able to stand out as original and gain player bases big enough to support their co-op concepts. Given the popularity of the Left 4 Deadseries, it makes sense why shooters just like it would be popping up, but it's a little curious that they've waited until now to start releasing. In 2021 alone, there were plenty of games that use the co-op horde shooter gameplay to explore every aspect of what makes mechanics like that fun, from Back 4 Blood to Aliens: Fireteam Elite. The Left 4 Dead-like seems to be a genre that's quickly become popular over the last few years.
